Do you want a professional email address alias for your domain but prefer to manage all emails within your familiar Gmail inbox? This guide will walk you through the process, ensuring communications look polished and professional.

Set Up Professional Email and Forwarder

First, you need to create a professional email address through a domain hosting provider. This is typically done within the hosting control panel (like cPanel). Once you've set up the email address (e.g., info@domain.com), configure a "forwarder" to the Gmail account. This ensures all emails sent to the professional address automatically land in the Gmail inbox.

Add Professional Email to Gmail

Now, let's connect the new professional email address to Gmail so you can send emails from it.

Step 1: Access Gmail Settings

Log in to the Gmail account. In the upper right corner, click the Settings gear icon, then select See all settings from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Navigate to Accounts and Import

In the settings window, click the Accounts and Import tab at the top. Under the "Send mail as:" section (the third section from the top), click on Add another email address.

Step 3: Add Professional Email Details

A pop-up window will appear. Here, you'll add the domain email set up with the hosting provider:

  • Name: Enter the name you want recipients to see (e.g., your name or company name).
  • Email address: Enter the exact professional email address created with the hosting provider (e.g., hello@domain.com).

Crucially, make sure "Treat as an alias" is checked. This ensures that when sending emails from Gmail, they appear to originate from the professional email address. After completing these fields, click Next Step.

Step 4: Configure SMTP Server Settings

This step requires the hosting provider's SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) details.

  • SMTP Server: This is typically the domain name (e.g., domain.com).
  • Username: The server username (often the full professional email address or a specific username provided by the host).
  • Password: The server password (either provided by the host or one you set up).
  • Port: This depends on the connection type:
    • If using TLS, set the port to 25.
    • If using SSL, set the port to 465.

Once these fields are accurately entered, click Add Account.

Step 5: Verify Email Address

Finally, Gmail will send a verification email with a confirmation code and a link to the professional email address (e.g., hello@domain.com). You only need to choose one option to complete the setup: either click the link or enter the confirmation code in the Gmail pop-up.

By following these steps, you'll have a fully functional professional email alias, all managed conveniently from the Gmail inbox!
